Carnitonic Oral is a solution composed of sorbitol, carnitine and vitamin B12. Sorbitol increases bile volume and bile salts excretion. This can indirectly improve fat digestion in the small intestine, as bile salts activate pancreatic lipase (enzyme needed for fat digestion) and emulsify fats. Carnitine is an amino acid which is synthesized in the liver from methionine and lysine. Requirements of carnitine are normally met by endogenous biosynthesis. However, carnitine requirements might not be met during stressful circumstances, high performances, or when high fat diets are fed. In case of carnitine deficiencies, most of the dietary lipids may not be used as an energy source and accumulate in the animal’s body leading to unwanted fat deposits. Therefore supplementation with carnitine and sorbitol can be useful. Vitamin B12 is required for the biosynthesis of methionine.
