Oxytocin is a nonapeptide hormone which is produced endogenously in the hypothalamus. Oxytocin promotes contractions of the smooth muscular tissue from the oestrogen sensitised uterus and lacteal gland.

A short-lived vasodilatation and lowering of blood pressure.
Hyperstimulation uteri through which the uterus contracts more often and longer.
In a state of spasm of the uterus oxygen supply of the foetus can be put in danger.
