Marbofloxacin 10% injection

Description

Marbofloxacin is a synthetic, bactericidal antimicrobial, belonging to the fluoroquinolone group which acts by inhibition of DNA gyrase. It has a broad-spectrum activity in vitro against Gram-negative (Pasteurella multocida, Mannheimia haemolytica, Histophilus somni, E. coli) and Gram-positive bacteria (in particular Staphylococcus spp.). Resistance to Streptococcus spp. may occur.


Indications

Cattle:
Treatment of respiratory infections caused by sensitive strains of Pasteurella multocida, Mannheimia haemolytica, Histophilus somni and Mycoplasma bovis.
It is also indicated for the treatment of acute mastitis caused by Gram-negative bacteria susceptible to marbofloxacin.

Pigs:
Treatment of Metritis Mastitis Agalactia syndrome (postpartum dysgalactiae syndrome, PDS) caused by marbofloxacin-sensitive bacterial strains.

Contra indications

Do not administer in animals with known hypersensitivity to marbofloxacin or any other quinolone or to any of the excipients.
Do not use in cases where the pathogen involved is resistant to other fluoroquinolones (cross resistance).

Side effects

Intramuscular or subcutaneous injections are well tolerated although transitory inflammatory lesions without clinical impact can occur at the injection site.

Dosage

Cattle:
2 mg of marbofloxacin/kg body weight
(corresponding to 1 ml Marbosan-100 per 50 kg body weight) as a subcutaneous or an intramuscular injection once daily for 3 - 5 days. The treatment for acute mastitis is 3 days intramuscularly. The first injection may be administered intravenousy.

Pigs:
2 mg of marbofloxacin/kg body weight (corresponding to 1 ml Marbosan-100 per 50 kg body weight) once daily by intramuscular injection for 3 days.


Withdrawal times

Cattle:
- Meat and offal: 6 days.
- Milk: 36 hours.

Pigs:
- Meat and offal: 4 days.
