The combination of ampicillin and cloxacillin has additive action. Ampicillin possesses antibacterial activity against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. Cloxacillin is active against Penicillin G resistant staphylococci. Both beta-lactam antibiotics bind to membrane bound proteins known as penicillin-binding proteins (PBP’s) and are bactericidal.
Treatment of clinical bovine mastitis in the lactating cow caused by Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, including Streptococcus spp. like Streptococcus agalactiae and Streptococcus dysgalactiae, Staphylococcus spp., Arcanobacterium pyogenes and E. coli.
Not to be used in animals with known hypersensitivity to the active ingredients.
Penicillins may cause hypersensitivity (allergy) following injection, inhalation, ingestion or skin contact. Hypersensitivity to penicillin may lead to cross reactions to cephalosporins and vice versa. Allergic reactions to these substances may occasionally be serious.
